Bout of Books #10 – DAY 1 UPDATE

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 10 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I made some progress today!!! I finished a book and made some progress on another. My first accomplishment is that I finished read Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen. This book was a re-read for me. It was my first or second Sarah Dessen book and it made me fall in love with her as an author. I know a lot of people don’t view it as one of her bests, but because it was one of my firsts of hers, it is one of my absolute favorite books ever. After I read this book for the first time (back in college right when it came out) I wanted a key necklace SOOOOOOO bad. I used to search all over stores to find one, but I never could find that perfect key necklace. I still see it in my dreams sometimes and hope to some day find it.

Anyway, after finishing Lock and Key, I started The Luxe by Ana Godbersen, but alas, I am having the same problem with it that I was having the first time I tried to read it just shortly after it was published. It is just so historically incorrect. The characters do not act properly for the time period and because of that, I just cannot handle it. It is the same reason I cannot handle Moulon Rouge. My sisters love it, but I cannot help but see the historical fallacies in it. I wish I could put that all aside, but I just can’t. Anyway, I got to about chapter two of The Luxe before I had to put it aside.

From there, I picked up That Summer by Sarah Dessen. This is one that I haven’t read before. I heard that this is the first book that she wrote, and you can tell. It just doesn’t capture the audience like some of her other books do. I will read it because it is a Sarah Dessen and I want to read all of her books this year. However, I just don’t see myself loving it like I do so many of her other books. These are some of the few contemporary novels that I will read and I cannot wait to read more of them. I might try to squeeze The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen into this Bout of Books. I haven’t read it yet. I bought it on the day it came out but it somehow got accidentally pushed to the back of the shelf and you know what they say… “Out of Sight, Out of Mind.”

How is Bout of Books going for you all so far? I hope well! Until tomorrow, hope you pick up a book and read!

Bout of Books #10

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. I haven’t really participated in a Bout of Books read-a-thon before so I am excited to do it this time. I normally come home from work and put on tv and then watch and cross stitch or crochet until I go to bed. This week, instead of doing that, I am going to read. I hope to read a minimum of five books this week. I am also going to try to post at least five blog posts during this week.

Here are a few books I hope to read this week:

Bout of Books

I was super excited when I was scrolling my Google Reader tonight and I heard about this thing call Bout of Books. I love reading challenges and book readathons because it keeps me motivated to read. If I do not set goals for myself and have challenges, reading tends to fall by the wayside for me. So I was super stoked to find out about this event. Dewey’s 24-hour readathon always makes me super passionate about reading, but soon after, Real Life gets in the way of my book life and I don’t find the time to read nearly as much as I want to.

So my hope is that Bout of Books will keep the reading up for a while long. I am a slow reader and I have to be realistic with myself… I will probably not get done a book a day (how I wish). So my goal is to read four of the following books. If I read more, I will consider it icing on the cake!

  • Twilight – Stephenie Meyer (started) finished 10/24/11
  • New Moon – Stephenie Meyer
  • Eclipse – Stephenie Meyer
  • Breaking Dawn – Stephenie Meyer
  • The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner – Stephenie Meyer
  • Stolen – Lucy Christopher (started)
  • Delirium – Lauren Oliver
  • Stay – Deb Caletti
  • Bitter End – Jennifer Brown
  • Wake Unto Me – Lisa Cach
  • Lola and the Boy Next Door
  • City of Bones – Cassandra Clare
  • Incarceron – Catherine Fisher
  • Divergent – Veronica Roth
  • Wither – Lauren DeStafano

I will update the list with books crossed off once they are completed. I know I listed a lot of books, but I am going to try to stick to this list and so the longer it is, the more options I have 🙂

Are you participating in Bout of Books? If not, why not? You can read like normal and still participate. If you are, do you have a goal list to share? If so, leave a comment with a link and I will check it out! Thanks for reading and hope to see you on the other side of this challenge! Be on the look out for a couple reviews that should be posted this week!
