Opening Meme –

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I am reading from Roseville, California in Northern California!
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I am most looking forward to Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. And hopefully the sequel as well.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? My homemade bean soup.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I am 28 and the oldest of four girls (ranging from 15 to 28). My parents are missionaries and we grew up overseas, in West Africa. Though they currently live in Singapore. I have a sister who lives in Germany and she and her husband have an adorable 22 month old boy. I love to quilt, cross stitch, and crochet.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? This is my 15th readathon! So there isn’t much that I haven’t tried before. I think I am going to try to focus on the social aspect a bit more than in the past. I spend a lot of time on Twitter during my co-hosting hours, but during the rest of the event, I don’t spend much time talking to other readers or anything like that. I would like to get to know the book community a bit more.

Update

I have been reading up a storm this year. Just finished book number 56. And while that might not seem like a lot to a lot of people, that is a lot for me. That being said, I have missed blogging and keep track of my reading. Over the last few years, this has become a place I occasionally update during readathon, and that makes me sad. So over the next few weeks, during readathon, I am looking to change that. I am looking to change my book reading goals as well. Update the fill in the gap challenge and just really go about utilizing this blog more. I am pretty excited about it, actually.

Also, for those interested, sign ups are up for the October 2016 readathon!!!!

April 2016 Readathon – Hour 1

Read all day long

Read all day long

This year, my entire family is here to participate in the readathon with me. I am so excited as my family is rather international and I’ve never had them participate with me! Currently, they are all still sleeping, but that isn’t important…

I am starting the day with Life, the Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams. It is on audio so that I could update my blog, make sure everything is running smoothly on Goodreads and Twitter, and take care of prepping my hourly posts for co-hosting later today. It is rather early in the morning (5 am) but I am surprisingly awake. I expect that I will crash at some point today. Oh well.

Opening Meme – Kate

4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I am 27 and the oldest of four girls (ranging from 14 to 27). All of my sisters and my parents are at my one bedroom apartment to participate in this event with me today. They’re still sleeping, but hey, they’re here. I have a sister who lives in Germany so I am especially excited to have her here with me today. I love to quilt, cross stitch, and crochet. I’m not sure what else there is to add.

I think that this lake (?) just looks so pretty and peaceful. I love the sunset on the water!

Reading Rainbow

I’m not gonna lie, I wish the Harry Potter books had never ended. I would love to see sequels and prequels and just more of that wonderful magical world! Mainly I would love to see a story from the time the Maurders were at Hogwarts. I think that would be really interesting.

One Day More… Till Readathon!!!!!

Read all day long

Read all day long

Guys, its that time of the year again. You know what time I am talking about… Readathon time! I am so so so excited. I haven’t blogged at all since the last readathon. I am hoping that this readathon will turn that all around (though I say that every time…). I am going to try to be better at book blogging! I swear, I am. I miss it.

Now lets dive into my basic game plan:

Snacks:

For once, I have actually already done my grocery shopping for the readathon I am actually quite impressed with myself as I am normally scrambling around last minute to do this. So what do I have? A variety of thing. For starters, I always treat myself to fancy cheeses for the readathon. So I have Gouda, Edam, Fontina, and Brie. I am very excited about this! I also have Brownie Bites, Peanut Butter M&Ms, Chips (Sweet Southern Heat BBQ and Tortilla Chips with bean dip). Another tradition I have is to put on a soup in the crockpot and eat that throughout the day. I always make this bean soup and so I bought all the ingredients for that along with a fresh loaf of sourdough bread. I cannot wait to eat this! I have some hummus and pita bread. I also have pomegranates, pineapple, and grapefruit. I have a Raspberry sorbet. I also have all the ingredients to have apple cider simmering on the stove top all day long. Looking forward to that as well.

The truth is that I probably won’t eat the majority of what I picked up. But readathons are the only time I treat myself to these goodies and then I make them last for weeks. So…. yeah…. #noshame

Books:

This year, I am probably mainly going to listen to audiobooks because I have taken on several craft projects that are on a tight schedule and so I will most likely be working on them the whole time I am reading. Audiobooks allow me to do both. However, I do have the new Illustrated Harry Potter book, and I want to read that. I also have the first in the new series by Rick Riordan, but I am still in line for that from the library on audio. Anyway, so here are the books that I am contemplating reading during the readathon.

Those are the main books I am looking at right now. Of course with me, nothing is a given and I could very well change my mind several times over and not actually read any of these books. I think I have several different genre’s represented here so I am pretty happy with my selection. What are you all reading? What are you eating? I hope, at the very least, you are joining in on the fun!!!! To get in at all the fun, visit Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon and sign up! It is never too late to join in on all the fun!

Hour 14 Update

readathon

I honestly have no clue how much of what I have read since my last update. I am doing a very bad job of tracking this. hahaha. Good grief. Although, I don’t think it is actually that big of a deal. I don’t fully know what I try to keep full track anyway. Here is what I do know, I have listened to a total of 5 hours of Elantris (actually more because I realized I zoned out a full hour and had to go back and listen to it again). I listened to 4 hours of The Final Empire (I finished that. I had started it a week ago). And I have read about 20 pages of The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall.

As for food, I have had two cups of bean soup. So yummy. A tumbler full of Wassail. Sour Gummy Worms. A couple pieces of pineapple. Oh, and a Cheer Wine. I love Cheer Wine (it isn’t wine). It is harder to come by here in California so I get it as a readathon treat.
